Today is Library Legislative Day, sponsored by the New Mexico Library Association to call attention to the vital role that libraries play in New Mexico's educational and cultural life. Libraries open the doors to information, literacy and opportunity in all our communities.

The fingerplay book on our desks was provided by the Every Child Ready to Read Program.
School and public libraries would like to help Governor Susana Martinez get "every first grader a reading book of their very own," as proposed in the State of the State Address on January 17, 2012! In addition, school and public libraries would like to come together for El día de los niños/El día de los libros to get first graders a library card and register for "Dream Big" summer reading at their local library.
Local libraries continue to experience large increases in use, especially by people using library computers to seek employment and training opportunities. Voters show support for their libraries by passage of state and local bond issues.
