TITLE: Operation and Governance by the Board of Directors: Understanding Your Role as a Good Board Member

DESCRIPTION:  This workshop covers the basics of how a Board of Directors operates in its governance of a membership association, and the role of each serving member of the Board. It will discuss topics including the legal identity and responsibilities of a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity, the scope and work of the Board, common Board activities, and the leadership opportunities and obligations of Board members individually and collectively.

PRESENTER:  Dr. Ling Hwey Jeng
Dr. Ling Hwey Jeng is a Professor and the Director of Texas Woman’s University, School of Library and Information Studies in Denton, Texas.  Her teaching areas include the role of information in society, organization of knowledge, electronic searching strategies, and library technical services.  Dr. Jeng has numerous scholarly publications and presentations and is a recipient of three major federally funded grant projects to the total amount of more than two million dollars. Dr. Jeng was the President of Chinese American Librarians Association in 1999-2000; served as the first Executive Director of Asian Pacific American Librarians Association in 2000-2005; was elected to the Texas Library Association Executive Board for a three year term in 2008-2011, and served three terms as an elected member of the governing Council of the American Library Association in 2002-2011.  Dr. Jeng is a frequent speaker on topics of library advocacy, diversity, leadership development and mentoring. Most recently, she presented a workshop on non-profit Board governance at the Project Blueprint, a non-profit Board leadership development program sponsored by the United Way of Denton County.

Feliz Cumpleaños - 102 años, Nuevo Mexico!

The celebration was held on the first floor and was FREE and open to the public. Birthday cake and bottled water was served to all attendees. Entertainment was provided by El Mariachi Porvenir from Santa Fe.  Lt. Governor with KOB Weatherman, Steve Stucker at 102nd birthday celebration!
