"Summer Reading" with Lt. Governor, Howie Morales

The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs and the New Mexico State Library have enlisted the help of Lt. Governor Howie Morales in promoting the importance of reading for children.

The Lieutenant Governor will read the children’s book “The Three Little Javelinas,” courtesy of the Silver City Public Library, during a Facebook Premiere event at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, as part of the statewide summer reading program that kicked off earlier this month. Summer Reading and NM Little Libraries

REFORMA de Nuevo Mexico is inviting you to register for the Lt. Governor's Summer Reading Program sponsored by the New Mexico Library Foundation and the New Mexico State Library and at your local library.  Many libraries, like Hatch Public Library, in Dona Ana County offers regular story time and take-home activities.  Farmington Public Library provides storytime and also has scheduled performers do a virtual presentation.  Miss New Mexico Teen Tourism has been busy distributing books across the state to New Mexico Free Little Libraries, while still practicing social distancing.  The bilingual book kits include Spanish/English STEAM experiments from Explora Science Center in Albuquerque and play New Mexico Book Bingo.

Although our focus is Dona Ana County, we do stop and "seed" packets across New Mexico.  If you would like a packet... fill out the survey on this blog and we will send it out to you, ASAP, along with the opportunity to win $100 gift card in August and October.

Recently, RNM visited a pocket park, since the Las Cruces Craft and Makers Market was unavailable, to distribute books and STEAM activities in a "TO-GO" project.  Sponsored by The Stocker Foundation.

Young Miss Latinita Mexico & Free Little Libraries

Young Miss Latinita Mexico, Brianna M. Pena Begay delivers books to (video) Free Little Libraries.

Inspired by World's Miss New Mexico Teen Tourism, Valeria Marquez and World's Miss New Mexico, Daisy Cervantes, delivering books at NM Free Little Libraries throughout Dona Ana County.

Brianna wore her mask, gloves and put books in Ziploc bags to leave in Free Little Libraries for kids to read this summer.  If you get the book, you can keep it.

Register for summer reading and take the survey to win an incentive from REFORMA de Nuevo Mexico.   If you didn't get a book, fill out the survey and request one from RNM.

Sponsored by The Stocker Foundation.
