REGISTER AN EVENT for New Mexico
WHEREAS,
literacy is the foundation of learning
and essential to the growth and success of all children, who represent our
hopes and dreams; and
WHEREAS,
the Children's Bilingual Book Festival
takes place each year at the National Hispanic Cultural Center to promote childhood
literacy; and
WHEREAS,
the
festival features K-6 books in Spanish, English and Native languages, along
with author readings, a book fair, student storytelling, poetry performances,
workshops for teachers and parents, and art- and book-related activities for
all ages; and
WHEREAS,
this year’s
festival was scheduled for April 26th, 2020, but had to be canceled
due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, in lieu of the festival, festival
partners encourage New Mexico children and their families to make a yearlong
commitment to read together every day and to register for the summer reading
program at their local library; and
WHEREAS,
all New Mexicans are encouraged to take
advantage of the wonderful multicultural resources and online databases
available at school and public libraries and on the New Mexico State Library's
website and to thank their librarians for making information available to all
who walk through their doors:
NOW
THEREFORE, I, Michelle Lujan Grisham,
Governor of the State of New Mexico, do hereby proclaim April 30th 2020
as:
“CHILDREN’S DAY/BOOK DAY”
or
“EL DIA DE LOS
NINOS/LIBROS”
throughout the state
of New Mexico.
